Zorro 3: The Last Mask (2026)

Posted on December 4, 2025

Starring: Antonio Banderas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Diego Boneta, Oscar Isaac

The Blade May Dull, But the Legend Endures

The iconic black cape and razor-sharp blade return for a final, epic chapter. Zorro 3: The Last Mask plunges us into the tumultuous dawn of the 20th century. The age of the valiant swordsman is ending, replaced by the grim realities of industrial might and warfare. Alejandro Murrieta (Antonio Banderas), now a silver-haired, respected nobleman and landowner, has finally hung up the cape and mask, believing his decades of sacrifice secured a peaceful, free California.

But peace is fragile. The tranquility is shattered by the arrival of Silas Thorne (Oscar Isaac), a brilliant but ruthless industrialist and tycoon. Thorne is armed not with swords, but with early machine guns, steam-powered drilling technology, and merciless plans to seize land, displace families, and pave over the heritage of California for oil and profit. When Thorne’s armored convoys and private security force begin terrorizing the local population, the people cry out for the legend—for Zorro.

The Burden of the Mask

Alejandro, aging and weary, recognizes the danger is greater than any he faced before. He cannot fight a war against industrialized weaponry and corruption alone. He must turn to the one person who shares his bloodline but rejects his burden: his estranged son, Joaquin (Diego Boneta).

Joaquin is a reckless, charismatic gambler and revolutionary idealist who scoffs at the “romantic” legend of Zorro, viewing his father’s past as obsolete theater. Haunted by the shadows and secrets of his childhood, Joaquin refuses to pick up the blade, believing the answer to modern tyranny lies in political action, not dramatic heroism.

Catherine Zeta-Jones returns as the fierce and elegant Elena, the family’s vital center and a formidable force in her own right. She serves as the desperate intermediary between father and son, all while proving she is still dangerously proficient with a blade, protecting the family estate from Thorne’s increasingly aggressive encroachment.

Legacy vs. Technology

The film is a breathtaking “passing-of-the-torch” epic. As Thorne’s forces close in, deploying tactics and firepower that threaten to crush the local resistance, Alejandro must find a way to reconcile his legacy with his son’s modern rebellion. He must teach Joaquin that true heroism requires action, while Joaquin must teach Alejandro that Zorro needs to evolve to fight a machine-powered enemy.

The ultimate confrontation is a spectacular blend of old and new: high-speed horse chases battling early automobiles, masterful rapier duels clashing with industrial-era machine gunners, and the final, desperate struggle to define what it truly means to be a hero in a world dominated by greed and technology.

The Z will be carved one last time on the faces of tyranny—but the mystery remains: In the dawn of the 20th century, who will be wearing the mask?
