Victor Wembanyama Expresses Frustration Over Handling of His Concussion Protocol — Calls It ‘Very Disappointing’

Posted on April 28, 2026

Victor Wembanyama returned to the court in strong fashion on Sunday, helping the San Antonio Spurs secure a Game 4 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. But after the game, the superstar center made it clear he was not happy with how his time in the NBA’s concussion protocol was managed.

Wembanyama sat out Game 3 while following the league’s concussion protocol. In his postgame interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, he praised the Spurs organization but voiced clear dissatisfaction with other parties involved in the process.

“The Spurs have done an amazing job,” Wembanyama said. “I’m very unhappy about the way the protocol has been handled by other parties. My staff has been amazing. I’ve been really healthy starting on Day 1 after the injury. It was weird, though. It was funny.”

He later elaborated during the postgame press conference, reiterating that his frustration was not directed at the Spurs or their medical team.

“I won’t get into the details,” Wembanyama said. “I don’t want it to become a distraction. Ask me again after the end of the season.”

He added that while he wasn’t commenting on whether sitting out was the right or wrong decision, the overall handling of the situation left him disappointed.

According to reports, Wembanyama requested an examination by an independent neurologist as part of the league’s return-to-play guidelines before Game 3. He felt ready to play and answered questions about his symptoms, but the NBA did not clear him for that contest.

Despite the experience, Wembanyama emphasized that he is currently feeling great and focused on the playoffs. With the Spurs holding a 3-1 series lead, he is determined to keep moving forward without letting the issue become a distraction during the postseason run.

This appears to be a situation worth watching. Wembanyama has indicated he may share more details once the season concludes. For now, the young star is back on the court doing what he does best — dominating games and helping lead his team deeper into the playoffs.
