US Prepares Potential Strike on Iran’s Hormuz Defenses as Trump Warns Tehran: “They’re Running Out of Time”

Posted on April 25, 2026

President Donald Trump is keeping maximum pressure on Iran, declaring he has “all the time in the world” while Tehran is quickly running out of options as stalled nuclear and ceasefire talks threaten to trigger a major escalation in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to CNN, citing sources close to the Pentagon, U.S. forces are actively planning targeted strikes on Iran’s defensive systems around the critical waterway if the current fragile ceasefire collapses. Options under consideration include precision attacks on fast-attack boats, mine-laying vessels, and asymmetric weapons that Iran has used to effectively blockade the strait — a chokepoint carrying nearly 20% of global oil trade.

Trump reinforced his tough stance on Truth Social and in comments to reporters on April 23, emphasizing that any deal must strongly favor the United States and its allies. “I’m probably the least pressured person who’s ever been in this position,” he said, while noting Iran cannot export oil under the current naval blockade.

The president made clear he is not in a rush, despite an earlier informal 4-to-6-week timeline. “Iran is the one under time pressure,” Trump stated, warning that prolonged disruption to its oil infrastructure could be devastating.

Negotiations between Washington and Tehran remain deadlocked. Iran insists on compensation for damages, long-term peace guarantees, and recognition of its “legitimate rights.” Tehran has drawn up a detailed retaliation list: striking Israeli and allied power plants if its energy facilities are hit, mining the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb, and mobilizing proxy forces to target U.S. bases if American ground operations occur.

Meanwhile, U.S. military assets continue to build up. Bomber crews are on extended alert, carrier strike groups are positioned across the region, and American satellites are closely monitoring key Iranian sites including nuclear facilities and islands near Hormuz.

On the diplomatic front, a fragile ceasefire extension in Lebanon was announced after Trump hosted talks at the White House, but ground realities remain tense with reported violations by both Israel and Hezbollah.

As the clock ticks, the stakes could not be higher. A failure to reach agreement risks a new phase of direct confrontation centered on the world’s most vital energy artery. Trump continues to project confidence that Iran will eventually come to the table on American terms — but with both sides dug in and military options on the table, the coming days may prove decisive for the future of the Middle East conflict.
