The Adventure Continues… A Generation Later.
Adventure is out there—and this time, the roles are reversed. Up 2: The Wilderness Explorer soars back into theaters, picking up 15 years after the balloon-filled journey that captured the world’s heart.
The Student Becomes the Master
Jordan Nagai returns to voice Russell, but the days of the clumsy, chocolate-loving stowaway are long gone. Russell has grown into a rugged, renowned Wilderness Explorer and a fierce environmentalist. Wearing his sash of badges like armor, he has dedicated his life to protecting the world’s most vulnerable ecosystems. However, despite his professional success, Russell carries a heavy heart. Following the peaceful passing of his father figure, Carl Fredricksen, Russell has inherited the legendary floating house. Once a vessel of dreams, it now sits grounded in the suburbs, acting as a quiet, dusty museum to a friendship that defied gravity.

One Last Flight
Peace is interrupted when Russell receives a fragmented, frantic distress signal from the depths of South America. It is a call for help concerning the legendary Sniper—Kevin. The rare bird and her flock are being hunted by a ruthless, high-tech poaching syndicate that views these exotic creatures as mere trophies.
Realizing he is the only one who knows the terrain of Paradise Falls, Russell decides to take to the skies one last time. He retrofits Carl’s old Victorian home, combining the nostalgia of the original helium balloons with cutting-edge drone technology and solar propulsion. The house is ready to fly again, not as an escape, but as a rescue vessel.

History Repeats Itself
However, the spirit of adventure has a sense of humor. Just as the house lifts off, Russell discovers he isn’t alone. Awkwafina voices Kai, a cynical, technology-obsessed city kid who was hiding on the porch to escape a school field trip. Glued to a tablet and terrified of dirt, Kai is the antithesis of everything Russell stands for.
Suddenly, Russell finds himself in Carl’s shoes: the grumpy, experienced aviator stuck with an unwanted, energetic passenger.
The Pack is Back
Accompanied by the faithful, Golden Retriever Dug (voiced again by Bob Peterson)—who is older, slower, but still easily distracted by squirrels—the unlikely trio must navigate storms, jungles, and modern mercenaries.

Up 2 is more than a rescue mission; it is a journey of mentorship. Russell must teach his young protégé that the wild isn’t just something you see in 4K resolution on a screen—it’s something you feel in the wind and the earth. With John Ratzenberger lending his voice to a new colorful character, the film promises a heartwarming, high-flying tribute to memory, nature, and the enduring promise that the spirit of adventure never gets old.
Key Themes:
- Legacy: How Russell honors Carl by becoming a mentor himself.
- Nature vs. Technology: The contrast between Russell’s analog survival skills and the villain’s high-tech weaponry, as well as Kai’s digital addiction.
- Conservation: Moving beyond just exploring the world to actively saving it.
