The Game Plan 2: Overtime (2026)

Posted on December 8, 2025

Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Madison Pettis, Kyra Sedgwick, Roselyn Sánchez

Twenty years after the heartwarming, unexpected arrival of his daughter changed his life, the legendary Quarterback Joe Kingman (Dwayne Johnson) is back in the game—but this time, he’s playing defense on a whole new, chaotic field. The Game Plan 2: Overtime fast-forwards two decades to deliver a hilarious, high-stakes collision of generations, proving that the Kingman Strategy needs a serious update.

The Powerhouse GM and the Grandpa Grind

Peyton Kingman (Madison Pettis) returns, no longer the young girl with ballet slippers, but a certified powerhouse trading dance for power suits. She has achieved phenomenal success, now serving as the ruthless, high-achieving General Manager of the Boston Rebels. Peyton runs the team with an iron fist, displaying an intensity and ego that surprisingly rivals her famous father’s. The dynamic between father and daughter is one of hilarious, competitive tension, with Peyton viewing Joe’s retired life as charmingly anachronistic.

The tables are spectacularly turned when a major crisis demands Peyton’s full attention, forcing her to temporarily leave her own mischievous, thoroughly Gen Alpha son—and Joe’s grandson—with Grandpa Joe.

Kingman Strategy Meets TikTok

Dwayne Johnson delivers one of his most charismatic and physically comedic performances yet as Joe Kingman. The retired sports icon quickly realizes that raising a grandson in the digital age is far more challenging than winning a Super Bowl. Joe desperately struggles to apply his beloved, old-school, “Kingman Strategy” of discipline, physical training, and tough love to a grandson who is completely unimpressed by Super Bowl rings and legendary football stories. All the kid wants to be is a TikTok star, and his preferred sport involves joystick control, not helmet contact.

The chaos is managed (or perhaps escalated) by the return of Kyra Sedgwick as Stella, the sharp-tongued, no-nonsense agent who is now reluctantly forced to referee this inter-generational family feud. Stella provides the biting commentary as Joe attempts to convert his gaming-obsessed grandson into a miniature linebacker.

With the addition of a key supporting role played by Roselyn Sánchez, the film deepens the emotional comedy, exploring the pressures of running a major sports franchise while navigating unexpected domestic duties.

A New Kind of Touchdown

Filled with genuine nostalgia, hard-hitting laughs, and moments of surprising tenderness, The Game Plan 2 shows that the most difficult, and rewarding, hits don’t come from linebackers on the gridiron—they come from family. Joe Kingman is more than ready for his on-screen comeback, but the central question remains: Is the King ready for the challenges of diaper duty round two? This film is a loving look at how family demands a continuous, often clumsy, update to even the most successful life plan.
