Shocking Attacks at Oklahoma Elementary School: Two Teachers Charged with Assault on Students VA45

In a horrifying sequence of events that has shaken the community of Elgin, Oklahoma, two elementary school workers have been accused of attacking young students. Both incidents, which occurred within months of each other, have raised alarm over the safety and well-being of children in educational environments. Elizabeth Kay Sutton and Ottoria McClung, both employed at Elgin Elementary School, face serious charges of assault and battery following their respective allegations.

On January 8, 2026, a 10-year-old boy became the victim of an alleged assault by Sutton, a 38-year-old teacher’s aide. According to reports from The Lawton Constitution, Principal Gabe Winn reported that Sutton physically confronted the young student when he became difficult to manage. The incident occurred after the boy had returned from lunch. Sutton reportedly grabbed the child and forced him back into his seat. The situation escalated when Sutton allegedly struck the boy in the face.

Surveillance footage from the classroom captured the disturbing moment. The footage shows Sutton moving her arm toward the child’s face, which caused him to turn away in fear. Sutton then swung her arm toward the boy’s face, delivering a blow that caused his head to snap back. When the child returned from lunch, his teacher noticed a red mark on his face, prompting an investigation into the incident.

Sutton, who had only been working as a teacher’s aide for five months, defended her actions by claiming that the child had been difficult since returning from a school break. She stated that the hold she used to restrain the boy was one she had been taught as part of her role and that she never intended to hurt the child. Despite her defense, Sutton was arrested and charged with assault and battery. She was also dismissed from her position at Elgin Elementary School, and Superintendent Nate Meraz confirmed that her termination followed the incident.

Months later, on March 13, 2026, another disturbing incident unfolded, this time involving McClung, a 37-year-old personal care assistant at the same school. McClung was accused of carrying a five-year-old student in a chokehold down a hallway. According to a witness, the child’s face turned red, and he was crying and hitting McClung’s arm as she allegedly said, “I can’t deal with this.” The witness immediately reported the incident to authorities, and McClung was arrested shortly thereafter.

Following this second attack, McClung was also fired from her position at the school. Both Sutton and McClung now face legal charges for their actions, with court appearances scheduled for May 20, 2026.

In the wake of these incidents, Superintendent Nate Meraz issued a public statement assuring parents and the community that Elgin Public Schools had taken the necessary steps to address the situation. He emphasized that all employees at the school undergo thorough background checks and professional reference verifications before being hired. Meraz also praised the culture of accountability at Elgin Elementary, noting that both incidents were reported to administration by fellow employees.

Meraz reinforced his commitment to creating a safe educational environment for children, saying, “If we have reasonable hesitation in the interview process, we will not employ you. Once employed, if you harm a student, you will be terminated.” He concluded by stressing that the safety and well-being of students remained the school’s highest priority.

As both incidents unfold in the courts, many are left to grapple with the disturbing idea that two trusted school workers would engage in violent behavior toward young students. The community of Elgin, Oklahoma, now faces the painful aftermath of these traumatic events, which have prompted widespread outrage and concern over the safety protocols in schools across the nation.
