Shock from Bali: When the News Is No Longer “Somewhere Far Away”

According to information released by Indonesian law enforcement, Interpol has issued a Red Notice to search internationally for five suspects in the kidnapping and murder of Ukrainian citizen Igor Komarov in Bali. What has shocked the public most is that three of the five suspects are Ukrainian nationals.

The suspects have been identified as Denis Galushko (34), Roman Melnyk (28), and Vasily Nemesz (42) — all citizens of Ukraine. Interpol has also issued warrants for Nikola Petrik, a Russian citizen, and Vladislav Ahanov, from Kazakhstan.

Indonesia’s National Police confirmed that all five individuals are wanted under Interpol’s Red Notice at the request of Indonesian authorities in connection with the abduction and murder case that has drawn worldwide attention. According to preliminary reports, Komarov was found dead under suspicious circumstances in a remote area of Bali — an island long regarded as a paradise for travelers, now turned into the scene of a grim tragedy.

No one knows the full truth yet, and of course, only the court can determine guilt. However, regardless of the final outcome, this case already casts a shadow over how Ukrainians are perceived abroad. Today’s world is smaller than ever — a single tragedy in Bali can reach Kyiv, New York, or Warsaw within hours. And each time it happens, it delivers another blow to the nation’s reputation and collective pride.

Amid the anger and disappointment, the most important thing is to keep faith in justice. The Indonesian authorities and Interpol are now working closely with several countries to track down the suspects. It is hoped that the truth will soon come to light, and that those responsible for this crime will be held accountable before the law.
