Republican-controlled United States Senate Votes on the SAVE ACT Lawmakers Have Officially Voted to Advance the SAVE...

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a victory for the Trump administration’s domestic agenda, the U.S. Senate voted 51-48 on Tuesday to advance the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. While Senate Democrats remain unified in their intent to filibuster the final passage, the procedural win allows Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) to initiate an aggressive floor debate focused on “common-sense” election reforms that boast overwhelming bipartisan public support.

The legislation aims to mandate proof of U.S. citizenship for voter registration and require a photo ID to cast a ballot in all federal elections.

The push for the SAVE Act has been fueled by recent, stunning admissions out of Fulton County, Georgia.

315,000 Illegal Ballots: Following years of denials, Fulton County Commission Chairman Robb Pitts provided documentation admitting that 315,000 ballots were illegally certified in the 2020 election without the required signatures on tabulator tapes.

The Margin: Given that the 2020 margin in Georgia was only 11,779 votes, Republicans are pointing to this admission as definitive proof that mass mail-in balloting lacks necessary oversight.

FBI Director Kash Patel added a new layer of urgency to the debate last summer, revealing that the bureau had previously quashed a probe into Chinese interference.

The Scheme: According to Patel, the Chinese government provided fraudulent driver’s licenses to Chinese nationals in the U.S., enabling them to cast illegal ballots.

The Cover-up: Patel alleged this investigation was silenced under previous leadership to avoid complicating the 2024 election narrative.

Democrats have labeled the bill “Jim Crow 2.0,” claiming it would disenfranchise millions of women and minorities. However, Republicans are leaning into the data, noting that the vast majority of Hispanic (81%) and Independent (78%) voters support these measures.

“We’re going to put every one of them on the record,” said Senator John Barrasso (R-WY). “Everyone in America will know that Republicans support voter ID and Democrats are the party of open borders and illegal voters.”

As the debate continues, Thune is expected to introduce amendments that would also limit school sports to participation based on biological sex and dramatically curb mail-in voting, effectively turning the SAVE Act into a comprehensive “Social and Electoral Contract” for the 2026 cycle.
