Craig Conover addressed his controversial rant against Salley Carson and admitted he’s “reactive.” The 38-year-old also defended using ChatGPT as a therapist, as he hinted at his breakup with Paige DeSorbo.
In the latest season of Southern Charm, Craig called Salley a “loser” and “dumb” on a sprinter van in Mexico after a night of partying. Many castmates seemed horrified by his behavior and told him he was out of line.
At the end of 2024, Paige broke up with Craig, who alleged he was blindsided. In recent episodes, Craig and Salley seemed to hit it off before he decided to pursue only Charley Manley.
Speaking on Drawn Together with Oona, Craig addressed his controversial behavior in the sprinter van.
“It took me a while to get there this year,” he said. “I did better this year, but then it ended terribly. Took me … 12 weeks to get there. Like I shouldn’t get to that point, but … I’m sensitive. I am a sensitive person. I just f**king freaked out.”
“I’m very reactive, [which] I try to work on,” he said at one point. “I’m very passionate about things. My message is a lot of times correct, but it just gets lost in my delivery. I don’t think that’s a red flag. It’s just something that I need to work on. … My red flag [is] probably that … I’m 38 and single. … It’s not a bad thing, [but people say] ‘Wait, have you ever been married?’ And you’re like, ‘No.’ Like, ‘Do you have kids? …What was he doing the last two years?’”
Later on, Craig defended using ChatGPT as a therapist.
“[I still do it,] yeah. And now I’m doubling down on it,” he said. “It is a great tool. [But] I [also] have a human therapist. They just don’t show you that. … I don’t tell him about ChatGPT, but I struggle with ruminating thoughts. Like my mind is very loud. And it’s always like I’m always talking to myself and stuff. And sometimes I get in these … loops, and so I’ll ask ChatGPT, like help me out of this. … I’m not like, ‘Oh tell me I’m right about this.’”
He then addressed his breakup with Paige.
“I was, like, having a hard time after [it]. I didn’t know what to do with the three years of like memories,” he said. “I was like, so [what was] it for? Like, was it wasted time? Like I just couldn’t, like, process that part.”
