It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we confirm the passing of Corporal (Cpl) Lucy Elizabeth Wilde, a brave and selfless member of the 2nd Battalion The Royal Yorkshire Regiment, who tragically passed away on 5th February 2026. Cpl. Wilde was a dedicated Combat Medical Technician and a cherished member of the Royal Army Medical Service, whose contributions to her unit, colleagues, and country will be remembered for years to come.
Early Years and Military Journey
Lucy’s journey into the military began in March 2018, when she made the courageous decision to join the British Army. From the start, it was clear that she was someone who was meant to serve. After completing her basic training at the Army Training Centre Pirbright and undergoing trade training at DMS Whittington, she went on to serve with the 5 Medical Regiment starting in August 2019. Lucy was posted to Gaza Lines Catterick, where she quickly proved her mettle during her deployment to Cyprus.
Her journey in the military was just beginning, and in 2023, Lucy moved to the 1st Battalion, Welsh Guards, where she made an immediate impact. But it was her posting to 2nd Battalion The Royal Yorkshire Regiment (2 R YORKS) in early 2026 that truly showcased the remarkable qualities that made her beloved by all who knew her.
A Bright Light in the Royal Yorkshire Regiment
Although Lucy had only recently arrived at 2 R YORKS, it didn’t take long for her to make a lasting impression. Her professionalism, combined with her natural warmth and outgoing personality, made her a standout from day one. Lucy quickly became a key member of the unit, impressing everyone with her work ethic and commitment to the mission.
As a qualified physical training instructor, she led Helmand Company’s physical training sessions, helping to inspire and challenge those around her to push their limits. Her dedication to her work in the Unit Aid Post (UAP) and the Garrison Medical Centre was unwavering, and she was always quick to lend a helping hand to those who needed it most. Her colleagues were in awe of her compassion and professionalism, which were a perfect reflection of the high standards she set for herself.
Despite the demanding nature of her role, Lucy’s sense of humour and ability to lift the spirits of those around her was one of her most cherished traits. Her energy and positive attitude were infectious, and she had an innate ability to bring people together, making even the most challenging days feel lighter.
Lucy had a unique gift—she knew how to balance the seriousness of her work with moments of lightheartedness. She created an environment where people could not only work hard but also support one another in times of need, where camaraderie was always a source of strength.
A Daughter of Yorkshire
Lucy was not only a dedicated soldier but also a proud daughter of Yorkshire, the place that shaped her into the remarkable woman she became. Her deep connection to her roots and love for her community was evident in everything she did. From her interactions with her fellow soldiers to the impact she had on the battalion, Lucy embodied the spirit of Yorkshire—proud, strong, and always ready to serve.
Her love for family, friends, and the tight-knit community of her battalion was clear to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Lucy’s bond with her colleagues and neighbours in the Corporal’s Mess and beyond was a testament to her character, kindness, and ability to form meaningful relationships wherever she went.

Cpl. Lucy Wilde’s legacy is one of compassion, determination, and kindness.
