Heisman Runner-Up Diego Pavia Turns Down Ravens Minicamp Invite for Bills Tryout — He’s Betting on Buffalo to Make Him a Star

Posted on April 28, 2026

The post-draft landscape continues to produce compelling storylines, and few are more intriguing than the bold move made by former Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia.

Once considered a potential high draft pick, the Heisman Trophy runner-up went undrafted and received a rookie minicamp invitation from the Baltimore Ravens. For most undrafted players, that would be a golden ticket. But Pavia had other ideas.

In a confident and unconventional decision that’s turning heads around the league, he declined the Ravens’ invite and instead chose to pursue a tryout with the Buffalo Bills.

“I turned down the Ravens’ rookie minicamp because I believe the Bills can shape me into a star on the field, and just as importantly, help me grow into a better man through the culture in Buffalo,” Pavia said. “This is where I want to build my future and prove who I truly am.”

His words reflect a clear mindset: it’s not just about getting into the league — it’s about finding the right environment to thrive.

At Vanderbilt, Pavia put together an impressive résumé, throwing for over 3,500 yards and 29 touchdowns while leading the Commodores to a historic 10-win season. He earned a reputation as one of college football’s toughest and most competitive leaders.

Questions about his size and other pre-draft evaluations led to his surprising slide, but that hasn’t shaken his belief in what he can become.

Now, his focus shifts to Buffalo. The Bills already have franchise quarterback Josh Allen leading the way, but they continue to prioritize quarterback depth and long-term development. Pavia sees this as the perfect place to learn, compete, and prove himself in a winning culture.

Turning down a formal minicamp invitation is rare for an undrafted player, but for Pavia it’s a calculated step. He’s prioritizing fit over familiarity, betting that the right system and coaching staff can unlock his full potential.

As rookie minicamps get underway, all eyes will be on how Pavia performs in Buffalo. If he flashes the arm talent, mobility, and leadership that made him a Heisman finalist, this decision could quickly go from risky to one of the smartest moves of the offseason.

For now, Diego Pavia isn’t just chasing a roster spot — he’s chasing the opportunity to become something special. And he believes Buffalo is exactly where that journey begins.
