Taylor Hall knew he wasn’t at his sharpest, but the veteran forward still delivered pure magic when the Carolina Hurricanes needed him most.
In a heart-pounding Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Second Round, Hall scored the overtime winner with 1:06 remaining to complete a stunning comeback from a 2-0 hole, lifting the Hurricanes to a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers at Lenovo Center. The win gives Carolina a commanding 2-0 series lead heading into Game 3 in Philadelphia on Thursday.

“As you get older, you figure out if you don’t have your A game, maybe you bring your B-minus,” Hall said with a grin. “You find a way to contribute.”
And contribute he did. Not only did Hall pot the game-winner — his first career playoff overtime goal — but he also made a massive block on Noah Cates’ shot with just eight seconds left in regulation, a play that sent the contest to extra time instead of ending in heartbreak.
On the winner, Sean Walker carried the puck in and fed Hall at the top of the left circle. Hall’s shot bounced off Flyers goalie Dan Vladar, and after a wild scramble where Hall fell but quickly recovered, he swept the loose puck home for the dramatic finish.
“It was a gritty goal,” Hall recalled. “I just wanted to get to the middle and get a shot off, then got the rebound.”
Hall has been a force all postseason, leading the Hurricanes with nine points and helping his line with Logan Stankoven and Jackson Blake produce the winning goal in four of Carolina’s six playoff victories.
The Hurricanes trailed early after the Flyers stormed out to a 2-0 lead in the first 4:41. But Carolina showed their trademark resilience, with Nikolaj Ehlers cutting the deficit on the power play and Seth Jarvis tying it late in the third. Frederik Andersen stood tall in net, especially during a Flyers-dominated overtime, giving Hall the chance to be the hero.

“We don’t quit,” Ehlers said. “If we keep putting pressure on them every shift, we’ll create chances — and we did tonight.”
Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour praised Hall’s all-around effort: “He was the difference… He rose to the occasion at both ends of the rink and won it for us.”
Now up 2-0, the Hurricanes head to Philadelphia riding high on momentum and belief. Can Hall and company keep delivering these clutch moments on the road, or will the Flyers find answers at home? The series intensity is only ramping up.
