Democrats Hit Rock Bottom as Approval Plummets to Historic Low Ahead of Midterms

Posted on April 25, 2026

Democrats’ popularity has sunk so low it’s almost impossible to measure — and the latest numbers prove the party’s strategy of relentless obstruction is backfiring spectacularly.

Congressional approval has crashed to just 10 percent, with a staggering 86 percent of Americans disapproving — matching the all-time record low. Even worse for Democrats, their own party’s approval rating has collapsed to a dismal 3 percent, just one point above Gallup’s historical floor.

This marks a dramatic reversal from early 2025, when Republican gains briefly pushed congressional approval up to 31 percent. But months of Democratic filibusters, procedural delays, and refusal to cooperate on key legislation have sent those numbers tumbling again.

Voters are clearly fed up. The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE America) Act — a popular measure to protect election integrity — remains blocked in the Senate by Democratic tactics. Meanwhile, the ongoing funding standoff at the Department of Homeland Security has dragged on for weeks, further eroding public trust and contributing to the broader sense that Washington simply isn’t working.

Republicans aren’t escaping criticism entirely. GOP congressional approval sits at 20 percent, with independents even more frustrated at just 11 percent approval. Still, the data shows the deepest anger is reserved for Democrats, whose low-single-digit support reflects growing disillusionment even among their own base.

The silver lining for conservatives? When your opponent’s approval is scraping the bottom at 3 percent, enthusiasm among their voters is nonexistent. That dramatically increases the chances that frustrated or apathetic Democrats simply stay home in November — a nightmare scenario for a party already struggling to connect with everyday Americans.

Meanwhile, attention is also turning to the Supreme Court, where a major Voting Rights Act case out of Louisiana could deliver another blow to Democratic strongholds in the South. Former Trump White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer hinted that the opinion is already written, but some justices may be slow-walking the release to limit time for redistricting.

As Spicer noted, reliable sources say the decision is done — and if it strikes down race-based gerrymandering, it could reshape Southern politics for years to come.

Bottom line: Democrats thought things couldn’t get worse heading into the midterms. They were wrong. With their brand toxic and their base disengaged, the path is wide open for Republicans to deliver results and capitalize on widespread voter frustration.
