Bret Baier Speaks On Trump, Iran Operation

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump expressed high confidence in the trajectory of “Operation Epic Fury” on Monday, revealing that the U.S.-led military campaign against Iran is moving “faster than thought” following a series of high-level strikes that decimated the regime’s command structure.

In a conversation detailed by Fox News anchor Bret Baier, the President confirmed that 49 Iranian leaders were “taken out” during a targeted morning strike. The operation, conducted while the sun was up, reportedly caught Iranian officials by surprise, as they had not anticipated an aerial assault during daylight hours due to tactical assumptions regarding visibility and weather conditions.

The President described the intelligence preceding the operation as “truly amazing,” noting that the 49 leaders were targeted while meeting for breakfast. The strike has effectively hollowed out the regime’s succession plan, leaving a vacuum at the highest levels of the Iranian government.

Trump further suggested that the U.S. is anticipating an internal uprising, stating he believes there are individuals on the ground ready to “rise up” as the regime falters. He pointed to the “Venezuela template” as a strategic baseline for the operation—a reference to focusing on internal political shifts following the application of maximum military and diplomatic pressure.

During a joint news conference on Monday, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine outlined the specific parameters of the mission. Hegseth characterized the operation as “laser-focused” on neutralizing Iran’s offensive capabilities.

“Destroy Iranian missiles, destroy Iranian missile production, destroy their navy and other security infrastructure and they will never have nuclear weapons,” Hegseth said.

Crucially, the Secretary of War sought to distinguish this campaign from previous long-term conflicts in the Middle East. “This is not Iraq,” Hegseth insisted. “This is not endless… This operation is a clear, devastating, decisive mission.” He echoed the President’s long-standing criticism of “nation-building,” framing “Operation Epic Fury” as a surgical strike rather than a protracted occupation.

The President indicated that the administration had initially set a four-week “calendar” for the current phase of operations to “set the table” for Iranian concessions or collapse. According to Baier’s report, the President is “very pleased” with the current progress, noting that the military is currently ahead of its projected schedule.

Trump praised the leadership of Gen. Caine and Secretary Hegseth, describing their execution of the mission as “central casting” and “cut and dry.” While expressing regret over the loss of life, the President maintained that the operation remains necessary to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons in the region.
