GREEN BAY, Wis. — At just 7 years old, Brandon Cisse stood in Williams-Brice Stadium watching a South Carolina Gamecocks game with his cousin and dropped a bombshell that still echoes today: “One day I’m going to play on that field.” His cousin ran home and told his mom, and the rest became pure destiny wrapped in wild detours.
That little kid’s bold prediction? It just exploded into NFL reality when the Green Bay Packers snatched the South Carolina cornerback in the second round of the 2026 draft. But getting from hyperactive toddler to Lambeau Field warrior was anything but a straight line – it’s a story full of heart, hustle, and one massive chip on the shoulder.

Kendria Cisse still has the photo of young Brandon and cousin Justin at that game. “He never got tired,” she laughs, remembering her son’s endless energy. Walking at 9 months, sprinting laps by 12 months – he was basically real-life Forrest Gump tearing down grocery aisles. Shopping trips turned into chaos because one parent had to stay home with the runaway speedster!
Football wasn’t even the family sport at first. Dad Cedric, from France, pushed soccer, and the Cisse boys dominated parks-and-rec and club teams from age 4. But Brandon? While other kids watched cartoons, he was glued to ESPN, breaking down plays like a coach and chatting NFL with adults. His hometown of Sumter, South Carolina, sat just an hour from Williams-Brice – close enough to fuel the fire, but for a while, it looked like he’d only ever be a fan in the stands.
By the end of junior year at Lakewood High, offers trickled in – but none from the big Power 5 programs he craved. South Carolina showed zero interest. So the summer before senior year, he begged his hardworking nurse mom for $100 to hit one last 7-on-7 camp at NC State. That single gamble changed everything: NC State offered, and he took it, seemingly burying his Gamecocks dream.
Fast-forward: After two solid years at NC State, the transfer portal opened the door back home. Cards aligned perfectly. Cisse arrived at South Carolina, earned newcomer of the spring, started immediately at corner, and balled out with top pass breakups, an interception, and a forced fumble. One magical season at his dream school – then he chased the ultimate prize: the NFL.
“It’s something I believed since I was a little kid, so it’s just exciting to see it come true,” Cisse said. “But this is just the beginning – I’ve got to take it to another level.”
At only 20 years old, one of the youngest in the draft, Cisse became the sixth corner off the board at No. 52 to the Packers. GM Brian Gutekunst didn’t hesitate: “There’s not a lot of 20-year-olds in the draft… We hope this works out as well as Kenny Clark did.”

Packers scouts had been all over him. National scout Mike Owen practically lived near South Carolina and loved the kid’s film obsession, weight-room fire, and that massive chip from being overlooked initially. “You can feel that chip on his shoulder,” Owen said. “He still holds it today. I hope he carries it into the NFL.”
The Packers needed corner help badly, and Cisse fits like a glove. From sprinting supermarket aisles as a toddler to locking down receivers on Sundays – this underdog story is just getting started. Green Bay fans, get ready for fireworks.
