Authorities in Bali have confirmed the identity of a man whose dismembered remains were discovered along the island’s southeastern coastline, closing a disturbing chapter in a case that has shocked both locals and international observers.
Police announced that DNA tests confirmed the remains belonged to Igor Komarov, a 28-year-old Ukrainian national who had been reported missing earlier this year while vacationing on the Indonesian island.
Residents first discovered the remains on February 26 near the Wos River estuary on Bali’s lower east coast. The discovery immediately triggered a large search operation along nearby beaches and riverbanks. Investigators recovered several body parts, including a severed head, a right leg, portions of the upper chest, thighs, and internal organs. Early forensic analysis suggested the victim had died roughly three days before the remains were found.
Initial examinations indicated an 80 percent similarity with the missing tourist based on physical features and tattoos. The identification was officially confirmed on March 6 after DNA testing.
Authorities believe Komarov was abducted on February 15 in the Jimbaran area of Bali. According to investigators, he was riding a scooter when a group of men allegedly intercepted him. Security cameras later captured suspected vehicles — a car and two motorcycles — traveling through the regencies of Tabanan and Badung around the time of the disappearance.
The last confirmed sighting of Komarov came shortly before he vanished. He had been vacationing in Bali with his girlfriend, influencer Yesa Mishalova, who shared photos of the couple on social media during their holiday.
On February 14, she posted images of the pair celebrating Valentine’s Day on the island, writing a caption that expressed her affection for him. The photos showed the couple enjoying the tropical destination just one day before Komarov reportedly disappeared.
Investigators have also been examining a video believed to have been sent during the case, which authorities say may be connected to a ransom attempt. Details surrounding the footage remain under investigation as police work to determine the motive behind the crime and identify those responsible.
The brutal nature of the discovery has raised serious concerns about organized criminal activity and violence targeting tourists. Indonesian authorities have stated that multiple investigative teams are continuing to analyze evidence, review surveillance footage, and track potential suspects.
For now, the case remains open as police pursue leads in an effort to bring those responsible to justice.
