A Moment of Recklessness That Shattered Lives: Three Dead After Milwaukee Pursuit

Posted on May 2, 2026

A Milwaukee family’s world was torn apart last September when a dangerous high-speed chase culminated in a devastating crash, claiming the lives of three loved ones.

Milwaukee County judge handed down a sentence of five-and-a-half years in prison, followed by five years of extended supervision, to Trevon Loston for his role in the fatal incident.

Loston entered a guilty plea to two counts: possession of a firearm by a convicted felon from out of state and operating a vehicle without owner consent. A separate charge of felony bail jumping was dismissed but considered during sentencing.

According to the official complaint, Milwaukee police officers were on patrol near Sherman and Center streets on September 16, 2025, when they noticed a white SUV traveling eastbound on Center Avenue at high speed without license plates.

When officers attempted to pull the vehicle over with lights and sirens, the driver refused to stop. The SUV sped away through residential neighborhoods, reaching speeds of 70 to 80 miles per hour. The pursuit came to a tragic end at the intersection of 35th and Vliet streets, where the Dodge Journey ran a red light and slammed into another car carrying five people.

Three passengers in the struck vehicle lost their lives, while two others suffered serious injuries.

Officers found a woman exiting the overturned SUV through the passenger window. She later told detectives she had been driving during the chase and crash. Loston was discovered unconscious inside, holding a black Taurus 9mm handgun equipped with an extended magazine and laser sight. A key fob for the SUV was also found in his pocket.

Court documents show Loston had been directing the woman throughout the pursuit, urging her not to stop while he held the firearm. The SUV had been stolen just days earlier from the driveway of a police officer in Elkhart, Indiana. Loston acknowledged knowing the vehicle was stolen but said he received it from someone else.

He told investigators he got a text from the woman asking for a ride, grew tired of driving, and handed over the wheel shortly before the collision. Even though he was not driving at the time of impact, his instructions and possession of the weapon played a key part in the high-risk events that followed.

Officials stressed that Loston’s actions created a serious danger to everyone on the road. The incident devastated the local community, leaving many mourning the sudden loss of a family in what should have been an avoidable situation.

Reports and statements describe a scenario marked by poor choices and a lack of regard for safety. The victims were everyday people whose lives ended instantly due to decisions made by others. Authorities noted Loston’s influence over the situation highlighted a level of carelessness and accountability under the law.

This case has prompted important conversations in Milwaukee about safety during vehicle pursuits and the responsibilities of those involved, even if not directly at the wheel. Residents are calling for stronger measures to prevent stolen vehicles, illegal firearms, and risky driving from endangering innocent lives.

While the woman was driving when the crash occurred, Loston’s guidance and armed presence escalated the danger. The court’s decision aims to uphold justice and reinforce the importance of public safety.

This heartbreaking event stands as a powerful reminder that one poor decision in a split second can change lives forever. Community members continue to honor the three lives lost and hope for greater caution on the roads.

Law enforcement reminds everyone of the critical need to follow traffic rules and the extreme risks of fleeing from police, especially in stolen vehicles. The combination of a stolen SUV, a firearm, and reckless direction led to this tragic outcome.

It also underscores the wider effects such incidents have on families and neighborhoods. Trevon Loston’s sentence of five-and-a-half years in prison plus extended supervision reflects the serious nature of the events and a commitment to protecting the community.

The loss of these three family members serves as a lasting call to prioritize responsibility and care in every moment behind the wheel.
