“Let Me Off!”: Family Files Lawsuit Claiming Bus Driver Ignored Victim’s Desperate Screams While He Was Stabbed 33 Times on Moving Las Vegas Bus

Posted on April 25, 2026

It started as just another ordinary ride through Las Vegas—one of the countless daily bus trips that quietly carry people across the city to work, home, or errands in between. Nothing about that February 2023 journey on a Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) bus hinted at the horror that was about to unfold. But in a matter of minutes, a routine trip turned into a nightmare that has since raised tough questions about duty, response, and what happens when violence erupts inside a moving vehicle with nowhere to run.

According to a lawsuit filed by the family of 30-year-old Dominique Lucas, the trouble began shortly after he boarded the bus. A brief dispute with another passenger, Aaron Cole, quickly spiraled out of control. Surveillance video reportedly shows Lucas trying to back away and create space. That’s when, the complaint alleges, Cole pulled out a knife. What started as words escalated in seconds into a brutal, life-threatening attack in the tight confines of the moving bus.

With seats, narrow aisles, and the vehicle’s motion limiting any escape, Lucas was trapped. As the stabbing continued, his voice cut through the chaos. Witnesses and video captured him screaming over and over: “Let me off! Help! Let me off the bus!” Those desperate pleas, according to the lawsuit, were clear requests for the driver to open the doors or stop—actions that might have given him a fighting chance to get away.

But the lawsuit claims that didn’t happen. Driver Marvin Scott allegedly kept the bus rolling for about four minutes while the attack raged on, passing multiple safe spots where he could have pulled over. Other passengers reportedly yelled at the driver to stop and open the doors, but the vehicle stayed in motion.

Eventually, the bus did stop. By then, it was too late. Lucas collapsed in the aisle, severely wounded from 33 stab wounds. Emergency responders rushed him to the hospital, but he did not survive.

For Lucas’ grieving family, the pain is compounded by those critical minutes when their loved one was still alive and begging for help. While prosecutors charged Aaron Cole with murder using a deadly weapon—he remains in custody facing the criminal case—the family’s civil lawsuit looks at a wider picture of responsibility.

It doesn’t excuse the attacker, but it questions whether the bus driver and transit agency failed in their duty to protect passengers. The suit alleges the driver’s decision to keep driving instead of stopping or opening the doors contributed to the tragic outcome. It also raises concerns about training: Were drivers properly prepared for violent incidents? Were clear protocols in place for emergencies like this?

The RTC previously fired the driver and called the incident “tragic and isolated.” They’ve emphasized the challenges of handling unpredictable situations in real time. But Lucas’ family argues it’s not about rarity—it’s about whether the response met basic expectations of safety and humanity.

Their lawsuit seeks justice in the form of damages and, more importantly, changes to policies that could prevent similar failures in the future. It highlights a bigger issue in public transit: When someone is in immediate danger and calling for help, what level of action is required from those in control?

Public buses operate under pressure—drivers juggle schedules, routes, and general safety. But a violent attack introduces split-second decisions with life-or-death stakes. This case puts those moments under a microscope.

As the legal battle continues, one haunting detail stands out: the repeated cries of a man fighting for his life. “Let me off.” A simple request that needed only one quick response.

If the doors had opened when he begged… would Dominique Lucas still be here today?
