CHICAGO — The training room at 35th and Shields is currently the busiest place on the South Side. The organization confirmed today that center fielder Everson Pereira has officially been placed on the 15-day Injured List with a Grade 2 ankle sprain, joining veteran Austin Hays (hamstring) in the “outfield triage unit.”
With Pereira and Hays both sidelined, the White Sox outfield has become a revolving door of “next man up” scenarios. The current active roster features a patchwork alignment that few could have predicted during Spring Training.

The loss of Pereira is particularly stinging. Before the injury, he was beginning to show the plate discipline that made him a key piece of the 2025 offseason strategy. Now, the burden of production falls on Dustin Harris, whose spectacular home-run-robbing catch in Kansas City proved he belongs, but whose bat must now sustain the middle of the order.
Head trainer James Kruziki provided a cautious update: “Austin [Hays] is progressing well with his running program, and we hope to have him back for the upcoming road trip to Oakland. Everson’s injury is a bit more complex. We want to ensure that ankle is 100% before he starts his explosive movements again.”

This is the moment that defines a coaching staff. Will Venable must now navigate a “speed and defense” philosophy to compensate for the lost power of Hays and Pereira. The call-ups from Charlotte, including Tanner Murray, have responded well so far, but as the Rays bring their elite pitching to town, the “Outfield Carousel” must stop spinning long enough for the Sox to find some offensive consistency.
