Crisis in the Bullpen: Chris Murphy Lands on 15-Day IL; Brandon Eisert Recalled .v1

CHICAGO — The injury bug, which has already feasted on the White Sox outfield this spring, has officially moved its attention to the pitching staff. On Thursday, the organization announced a “Crisis in the Bullpen” as left-handed reliever Chris Murphy was placed on the 15-day Injured List with left elbow impingement syndrome, a move retroactive to Wednesday.

The loss of Murphy is a significant blow to manager Will Venable’s late-inning strategy. Murphy, acquired from the Red Sox in the offseason, had emerged as the primary “bridge” to closer Seranthony Domínguez. Despite a rocky ERA in a small sample size, his peripheral metrics suggested a breakout was imminent. Now, the Sox must navigate a high-leverage void during a critical stretch of the April schedule.

In a flurry of corresponding moves, the White Sox recalled left-hander Brandon Eisert and right-hander Duncan Davitt from Triple-A Charlotte. To make room on the active roster, the team optioned lefty Tyler Schweitzer back to the minors.

Duncan Davitt (RHP): A hard-throwing prospect whose fastball has touched 99 mph this month in Charlotte.

“It’s a challenge, no doubt about it,” Venable said during a pre-game presser. “Chris was a guy we leaned on for those tough pockets in the 7th and 8th. But this is why we built depth in Charlotte. Eisert and Davitt have earned this opportunity. We need them to come in and challenge hitters right away.”

The bullpen’s durability is now the team’s biggest question mark. With Jordan Hicks and Lucas Sims already logging heavy innings in the first two weeks, the newcomers will be tested immediately.
