State of the Union Confrontation and Deportation Demands
The escalating rhetoric follows Tuesday evening’s State of the Union address, during which Rep. Omar (D-MN) and Rep. Tlaib (D-MI) audibly protested the President’s speech before exiting the House chamber. The lawmakers shouted, “You have killed Americans!” in a direct rebuke of the administration’s immigration enforcement policies and recent actions by federal immigration officers.
In a lengthy post on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday, President Trump condemned the lawmakers’ behavior and suggested they be removed from the country.
“When people can behave like that, and knowing that they are Crooked and Corrupt Politicians, so bad for our Country, we should send them back from where they came — as fast as possible,” Trump wrote.
Despite the President’s demands, neither representative is legally eligible for deportation. Representative Tlaib, a Palestinian American, was born in Detroit, Michigan, and is a natural-born U.S. citizen. Representative Omar was born in Somalia but immigrated to the United States as a refugee and has been a naturalized U.S. citizen for nearly three decades.
Lawmakers Respond: Representative Tlaib responded to the President’s post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Highlighting the President’s reaction to their protest, she wrote: “Can’t take two Muslimas talking back and correcting him so now he is crashing out.” She concluded her post with the hashtag “#PresidentMajnoon,” utilizing an Arabic word that translates to “mad” or “crazy.”
The President’s Truth Social post also targeted actor Robert De Niro, a long-time and vocal critic of the Trump administration.
Trump described the actor as “another sick and demented person with, I believe, an extremely Low IQ, who has absolutely no idea what he is doing or saying.”
The President further compared De Niro to comedian Rosie O’Donnell, stating: “When I watched him break down in tears last night, much like a child would do, I realized that he may be even sicker than Crazy Rosie O’Donnell, who is right now in Ireland trying to figure out how to come back into our beautiful United States.” He added his view that O’Donnell is “probably somewhat smarter” than De Niro.
Trump’s remarks were triggered by De Niro’s appearance on an “MS Now” podcast published on Monday. During the interview, De Niro characterized the President as “the enemy of this country” and expressed alarm over the administration’s future plans.
“He will never leave. We have to make him leave,” De Niro stated on the podcast. “You see, he jokes now about nationalizing the elections — he’s not joking. We’ve seen enough already. And everybody’s worried about it, but he means it.”
The public exchanges highlight the deeply polarized political climate following the State of the Union, as the administration continues to clash openly with Democratic lawmakers and high-profile cultural figures.
