I wanted to provide a quick update on our dear friend, Blake Garrett. For those of you who’ve been following his journey, you may recall that Blake is the 5-year-old son of Chris and Amy Garrett, who have been sharing his milestones with all of us. If the last name sounds familiar, it’s because Blake is also the grandson of the well-known cook and baker, Mama Sue Garrett, and her husband Harold. The love and support that surround Blake are truly inspiring.
Blake has Mosaic Trisomy 22, a chromosomal abnormality that affects his development in various ways. This condition is associated with a range of challenges, including developmental delays, intellectual disability, congenital heart defects like ASD and VSD, ear malformations, hearing loss, webbing of the neck, and changes in skin pigmentation. Despite these hurdles, Blake continues to show resilience, and his family celebrates every step forward.
While Blake is non-verbal and requires a feeding tube, his parents have shared how he is steadily making progress. Recently, he’s been able to stand with assistance and sit up—milestones that, although small, mean the world to his family. Every bit of progress is a victory in his journey, and his parents couldn’t be prouder.
Now for the most recent update:
Blake had a seizure not long ago, which led to a follow-up appointment in his Louisiana home. Chris and Amy shared that Blake’s care team decided to conduct a baseline EEG to monitor his condition, especially after the seizure and the introduction of a new medication. Thanks to the dedication of the medical team, the procedure was done comfortably in their home, which made a world of difference for Blake.
Chris shared his gratitude in an update yesterday: “After Blake’s recent seizure and starting a new medication, his care team wanted to get a baseline EEG. We are so thankful that with amazing techs, patience, and modern medicine, they were able to come to our home and complete it comfortably for him! They were able to get a good read, and now we are just waiting to hear back on the results.”
As always, Chris and Amy expressed their appreciation for the outpouring of love and support from everyone. They are deeply touched by the ongoing prayers and kind thoughts they continue to receive. “As always, thank you all so much for the love, support, and prayers. Many of you have been asking about Blake’s progress, and I’m grateful to Chris and Amy for keeping us updated. Their strength and determination, along with the unwavering support from Mama Sue and Harold, have been nothing short of incredible.
