The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have quietly revealed how worried they are about their wide receiver depth.
Tampa Bay signed veteran receiver David Sills after he spent the 2025 season with the Atlanta Falcons.
While the move may not seem major at first glance, it could be a sign the Buccaneers are still searching for more size and experience after losing Mike Evans in free agency.
The biggest misunderstanding is believing Sills is simply a camp body with little chance to contribute.
Sills appeared in all 17 games for Atlanta last season and started four of them. He finished with 191 receiving yards and two touchdowns while giving the Falcons a bigger target on the outside. At 6-foot-3 and 211 pounds, he offers a physical profile that Tampa Bay’s current receiver group does not have.
The Buccaneers still have a talented group led by Chris Godwin, Emeka Egbuka, and Jalen McMillan, but none of them bring the same type of size that Evans did for more than a decade in Tampa Bay.
That is one reason why Sills could have a real opportunity to compete for snaps during training camp.
Sills has already shown he can take advantage of opportunities when they come. His most productive game last season came against the Buccaneers, when he caught six passes for 78 yards in a one-point win for Atlanta.
Sills has previously spoken about staying ready no matter what role he is given.
“You always have to stay prepared because you never know when your opportunity is going to come.”
That mentality could help him earn a much larger role than many fans expect.
The Buccaneers may not view Sills as a replacement for Evans, but they clearly believe he can help fill one of the biggest holes on the roster heading into 2026.
