The famous golden buzzer was earned by a group of Leicester school children after ‘an electrifying performance’ on Britain’s Got Talent. Braunstone Community Primary School, in Braunstone, showed up in full force on the ITV show on Saturday, April 4, as 100 children took to the stage and ‘wowed’ the judges and audience.
The pupils, aged seven to 11, gave a joyful audition that stunned guest judge Stacey Solomon, who slammed the golden buzzer to send the act straight through to the live semi-finals.
The group’s performance of All Things Bright and Beautiful transformed into a high-energy set, as the children burst into a choreographed dance medley featuring Friday by Nightcrawlers, Freed from Desire by Gala and The Rhythm of the Night by Corona.
At the heart of the performance was their much-loved former headteacher, ‘Mr T’, Halil Tamgumus, whose passion for music and movement has become legendary among pupils.
Now a School Improvement Advisor with Discovery Trust, Mr Tamgumus reunited with 100 of his former students to take their unique school spirit to the national stage.
The performance on the big stage was not a one-off, though, as it became a tradition at Braunstone Community Primary School that the classroom on a Friday afternoon turns into a dance session, which boosts wellbeing and engagement.
Speaking about the performance, Mr Tamgumus said: “Taking a hundred children to the auditions was already a dream come true. But hearing that Golden Buzzer and seeing the confetti fall is something they’ll remember for the rest of their lives.

“The judges talked about the energy and the joy, and that’s exactly what this is about. Music and dance give our children a sense of belonging like nothing else.
“Being on this show is life-changing. It shows them they can dream big, believe in themselves and find joy even when life is challenging.”
The performance won praise from judges Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and YouTuber KSI, who applauded the children’s confidence and spirit.
TV personality Stacey, who rose to fame on another talent show, X Factor, was standing in for Simon Cowell who missed that day of filming.
As she hit the Golden Buzzer, Stacey said: “Selfishly, I enjoyed that just as much as you did. This is the best feeling in the world to see all of you go to the semi-finals and get to spread joy to millions and millions of people. I can’t wait to see how far you go.”
Following the glorious moment, people from across Leicestershire took to Facebook to celebrate with the school, as one commenter wrote: “This needs to be a thing in every school across the country, bring kids together for even just 15 minutes every Friday for fun and laughter.
“Every other primary school could learn a thing from this!”
Another person said: “I live across the road from this school and used to think how cool it was that the school has a rave on a Friday afternoon. Congratulations to all the kids. Brilliant!”

The audition was filmed last October at the Hippodrome Theatre in Birmingham, with hosts Ant and Dec on hand to celebrate the emotional moment.
The group will now prepare for the live semi-finals, where the children will perform for a place in the grand final and the chance to appear at the Royal Variety Performance.
