WASHINGTON D.C. — The “Squad” has never looked smaller, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) has never looked more defeated. In a historic bipartisan smackdown, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution condemning the “horrors of socialism” by a landslide vote of 285-98, effectively isolating the radical left wing of the Democratic Party.
The “Red Wedding” for Socialists The vote was a catastrophe for progressives. While Republicans were expected to support the measure, the shock came from the Democrat side of the aisle. A staggering 86 Democrats broke ranks to join the GOP, declaring that socialism has no place in the United States. Among the defectors was none other than House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries—a move that insiders say left AOC “devastated” and feeling betrayed by her own leadership. “A yes vote on this resolution should be a relatively straightforward, easy decision,” noted Rep. French Hill (R-Ark.). And for 285 lawmakers, it was.
New York Rejects Its Own Mayor The timing was brutal. The vote took place just hours before New York City’s newly elected “democratic socialist” Mayor, Zohran Mamdani, arrived in D.C. to meet President Trump. Even Mamdani’s fellow New Yorkers in Congress abandoned him.

Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY), whose mother fled Cuba, delivered a fiery rebuke: “She fled the very things that our new socialist mayor in New York City says he wants.”
AOC and the Squad Isolated While AOC and Maxine Waters voted against the measure, claiming Congress should focus on “grocery bills” and “Trump’s tariffs,” their protests fell on deaf ears. The overwhelming majority of their colleagues chose to stand with American values over Marxist fantasies. For AOC, seeing nearly 100 members of her own party openly denounce the ideology she champions is a political death knell. It signals that despite the media noise, the “socialist revolution” is dead on arrival in the Capitol.
Trump’s Victory Lap While Congress was busy crushing socialism, President Trump was busy co-opting the socialist. In a masterclass of political maneuvering, Trump hosted Mamdani at the White House for a meeting that was surprisingly “warm.” Trump, who once called Mamdani “my little communist,” laughed off their past insults and even put a pause on deploying the National Guard to NYC. “I have to be honest with you, I focused very little on resolutions,” Mamdani told reporters, trying to brush off the congressional rebuke.
But the message remains: Trump is in charge, the GOP is united, and the Democrats are fracturing before our eyes. Socialism didn’t just lose today; it was humiliated.
