2026 NBA Playoffs Explosion: Pistons Crush Cavaliers 111-101 in Game 1 – Cade Cunningham Goes Nuclear as Detroit Ends Curse and Sparks Massive Revenge Drama!

Posted on May 6, 2026

DETROIT — The top-seeded Detroit Pistons delivered a statement win that sent shockwaves through the Eastern Conference, hammering the Cleveland Cavaliers 111-101 in a Game 1 showdown packed with intensity, comebacks, and personal vendettas.

Cade Cunningham exploded for 23 points and dished out crucial assists, while Tobias Harris dropped 20 in a dominant performance. Duncan Robinson added 19 as the Pistons raced to big leads and refused to let Cleveland mount a full rally. This victory ended Detroit’s NBA-record-tying 12-game postseason losing streak against the Cavs — a nightmare drought stretching back to the 2007 Eastern Conference finals.

Game 2 is set for Thursday night in Detroit, where the tension is already boiling over.

Cleveland fought back hard after trailing by as many as 18 points. Donovan Mitchell scored 23 but saw his insane streak of nine straight 30-point series openers come to a screeching halt. James Harden poured in 22 points in his first matchup against the Pistons since the trade, and Max Strus added 19. But Jarrett Allen was held to just two points and three rebounds, a far cry from his monster Game 7 against Toronto.

The Pistons jumped out aggressively, leading 37-31 after the first quarter and pushing the advantage to 59-46 by halftime. Even when the Cavs clawed within three late in the third, Ronald Holland II drilled a buzzer-beating three to keep Detroit firmly in control at 83-76.

Cleveland refused to die, tying the game at 93-all with 5:28 left on a Harden scoring burst. But Cunningham and Jalen Duren answered with ice-cold poise — Duren blocked Harden, then finished three straight dunks off perfect Cunningham feeds to slam the door shut.

This Central Division-winning Pistons squad (60 wins, eight games ahead of the defending champ Cavs) has come a staggering long way — just two years after a catastrophic 68-loss season with a record 28-game losing streak. They battled back from a 3-1 deficit against Orlando to reach the second round for the first time since 2008.

For coach J.B. Bickerstaff, this one hits different: fired by the Cavs after leading them to the playoffs, now he’s guiding his new squad against his old team with serious revenge fuel. The drama is real, the stakes are sky-high, and Detroit looks ready to turn this series into an all-out war.

Fans are already buzzing — can the Pistons keep rolling, or will Cleveland strike back in a hostile Game 2? The Eastern Conference is on fire!
