A Father’s Heartbreaking Journey: Losing One Twin to Sudden Violence, Then Taken Before He Could Share His Son’s Story

Posted on May 5, 2026

It was meant to be a peaceful evening—calm and ordinary, the sort where a home feels like the safest haven. Inside, 19-month-old twins Ace and ArCel Lucas slept soundly on the couch, innocent and unaware of the world’s uncertainties. Their father, Aaron Lucas, stayed close by, listening to their gentle breaths and believing they were protected.

Then, in a flash, everything shattered.

On July 22, 2020, shots rang out, piercing the house. Around 23 rounds tore through walls and furniture where the little ones rested. What had been a quiet space turned into turmoil in moments.

Ace Lucas was hit in the head. He passed away before his life could truly start. His twin brother, ArCel, was wounded in the leg but survived, carrying the weight of that night forward.

One child lost forever. One child left to grow up without him. And a father navigating both truths every day.

For Aaron Lucas, the pain was deep and lasting. His trusted home had become the site of unimaginable loss. Yet as time passed, his purpose shifted. He stepped up as a key witness in the case, preparing to stand in court and speak for Ace—to ensure his son’s brief life was remembered and justice pursued.

He readied himself for the testimony, for facing those accused, and for giving his child a voice through his words.

But that moment never arrived.

On August 8, 2021—just one day before he was scheduled to testify—Aaron Lucas was shot and killed. The timing added layers of sorrow and uncertainty to an already tragic situation. The father who aimed to advocate for his son was silenced right before he could.

Two profound losses in one family, less than a year apart.

The legal process for Ace’s case moved ahead despite the challenges. Trejuan Johnson was later convicted in connection with the shooting that took Ace’s life and injured ArCel, receiving a significant sentence. Yet it couldn’t undo the harm or shield Aaron.

In Aaron’s case, Nichalous Harvey faced initial arrest, but a grand jury declined to move forward due to insufficient evidence, describing it as stemming from a separate incident. The matter stayed open, without full resolution.

For ArCel Lucas, the surviving twin, days continue—but with noticeable absences. He grows up missing his brother and his father, holding a story that began too early.

This goes beyond one instance of harm. It shows how such events can ripple outward, creating repeated sorrow and lingering doubts that may never fully fade.

Ace Lucas was 19 months old. Aaron Lucas was set to speak for him. ArCel Lucas now carries their memories onward.

For this family, the pain didn’t stop with one evening. It echoed on, leaving unvoiced words and enduring questions about what might have been shared if only he had the chance.
