According to Brevard County prosecutors, 37-year-old Clifford Owen Long, also known as “Goof,” faces serious charges including first-degree murder in the death of 2-year-old Bles’Syn Lightner. He also faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder for allegedly shooting the child’s grandparents, along with armed burglary and firearm possession by a convicted felon.
The incident occurred on August 29, 2025. When officers arrived at the residence following an emergency call, they found a chaotic scene. A 48-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man were injured by gunshots and still alive. Then came the heartbreaking discovery in a bedroom: little Bles’Syn, who had just turned two days earlier, with a close-range wound to her forehead. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Details from the Investigation
Four other adults and two additional children were inside the home but were not physically hurt. There were no clear signs of forced entry, which raised questions about how the suspect gained access. The grandparents initially told police they did not know the attacker, but later statements from the grandfather identified Long as the person responsible. He reportedly witnessed the events and described the suspect stepping over the child before firing at him.
Witnesses described Long as a tall, thin, light-skinned Black man with a distinctive head shape, which helped confirm his identity. Court records note that Long allegedly made statements afterward suggesting the incident involved a dispute over money, possibly tied to a robbery. He reportedly claimed he “didn’t mean” to harm the child.
Long was already in custody on a separate case involving a violent attack on a homeless man. He is now being held without bond in Brevard County Jail. His next court appearance is set for May 20.
