Life in the remote, protected sanctuary was seemingly perfect for the Spix’s macaw family, raising their three spirited young. However, tranquility shatters when their youngest and most thrill-seeking chick, Tiago, is snatched during a clandestine operation by an elite, ruthlessly efficient international smuggling ring. These modern-day criminals plan to sell the rare birds, including Tiago, to the highest-bidding overseas collectors.
Jesse Eisenberg returns as the endearingly neurotic, over-protective, but ultimately brave Blu, who finds himself thrust back into the high-tech, fast-paced urban jungle of Rio—a world he barely recognizes and one that is fundamentally different from the wilderness he has grown accustomed to. Anne Hathaway brings fierce determination as Jewel, the experienced wild bird, reminding everyone why the sky belongs only to the free.
